Patrick Cantlay defends BMW title

At the BMW Championship, Patrick Cantlay successfully defended his title, putting him in a strong position to do the same for the FedEx Cup.

In the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs at Wilmington (Del.) Country Club, Cantlay defeated Scott Stallings by one stroke with a final-round 2-under 69.

Cantlay moved up five spots to second in the standings with to the 2,000 FedEx Cup points that came with his victory.

Cantlay became the first player in the format's 16-year history to win the same playoff event in back-to-back years when he won the BMW last year on his path to winning the FedEx Cup.

Cantlay recorded a 14-under 270 four-day total.

Prior to Cantlay passing him with a birdie at hole No. 17, Stallings scored a score of 69 on Sunday and had at least a share of the lead for most of the day.

"I hit a lot of solid shots and then I got a couple good breaks," Cantlay said.
